IN-KYA in Canada "Tokyo Troposite" Music VIdeo
Neon Memories Through a Ruined City
This music video was created for IN-KYA in Canada’s “Tokyo Troposite,” released through slugger PRODUCTION, a production collective centered around Liberal a.k.a. Toshiki Iwama of SANABAGUN. The track evoked the image of looking out from a moving vehicle onto the ruins of a near-future city. We built that world in Unreal Engine, creating neon-lit streets inspired by the sounds and atmosphere of the music. At the time, incorporating Unreal Engine seriously into our filmmaking process was a new challenge for us, and we explored how far we could push its real-time environment building to capture the mood of the track. We also focused heavily on the final texture of the image, rather than simply pursuing polished 3DCG. By layering VHS noise, distressed image textures, and graphic captions over a video game-like world, we created a visual language that evokes the atmosphere of the late 1990s and early 2000s.
